It's hard to imagine a food tour being anything less than amazing. You get to explore a new city, learn about its cuisine, and in most cases, taste lots of yummy things. There are, however, some tips you can follow to take your food tour from a great experience to a really, really incredible one. Here they are:
1. Check the length.
If you're really fit and love to walk, then maybe going on a food tour with two or three miles of walking does appeal to you. But for most people, a food tour with less walking is a better time. Check the route of the tour before booking. Look for a tour where all of the stops are in closer proximity to one another so you spend more time visiting restaurants and less time walking between them.
2. Take the tour at the start of your trip.
When planning your vacation, make the food tour something you do early on — preferably on the first day at your destination. This way, you will become acquainted with the region's cuisine and will know what foods to sample throughout the rest of your stay. You may even discover specific markets or restaurants that you want to visit again, later in your vacation.
3. Try things you think you may not like.
Maybe you're presented with shrimp, and you're usually not a shrimp person. Or perhaps you're given a sample of chocolate, but you don't typically eat sweets. Unless there is a medical reason why you can't eat something, try to keep an open mind and give it a try. Foods are made differently in different cuisines, and you might be surprised how much you like a certain food or beverage when it is prepared in a certain way.
4. Bring some cash.
Take out some cash in the currency of your tour location. On many food tours, you will have the opportunity to buy extra drinks, snacks to take home, and other items along the way. Not all small vendors accept credit cards, so if you have cash on hand, you know you'll be able to purchase anything that suits your fancy.
With the tips above, you can have an incredible food tour. If you do enjoy yourself, remember the experience and consider booking additional food tours when you visit other cities. They are a great way to experience the local cuisine.
As soon as I started traveling worldwide for work, I realized that I needed to work hard to understand the travel restrictions for some of the places where I would be going. After I tried to board a plane with a pack of playing cards to Germany and I was turned away, I realized that there were some finicky countries out there. I worked hard to research each and every place where I would be visiting, and within a few months I felt like I had the hang of things. This blog is filled with fun information about travel and tourism so that you can enjoy your travels and your work trips.
