3 Tips For Navigating The Vacation House Rental Experience

by Eva Morris

When planning a vacation, renting a house can make the experience a little more personal and enjoyable for your family. In order to navigate the vacation house rental experience, you need to figure out what features matter for your family, take timing into consideration and consider breaking things up if vacationing with  a group.

#1 Figure Out What Features Matter For Your Family

First, take some time to figure out what features really matter for your family. For example, if you want to be able to step off the back porch of your rental and right onto the beach, then paying to be on the beach makes sense for your family. However, if you don't mind a short walk to get to the beach or even a short drive, you could save money by renting a house near the beach but not right on it.

Figure out what you want to get out of the rental most as a family. The location may be the most important, or everyone getting their own bedrooms, or perhaps having access to an outside grill. By figuring out what matters before you start looking for a rental, you'll be able to prioritize what to look for as you search for your perfect vacation rental.

#2 Take Timing Into Consideration

Be sure to research the area where you want to rent a vacation home. Vacation rentals can be much harder to obtain if you are visiting during a special festival, event or tournament. If there is a special event in that town, and you are not interested in attending that event, you may want to consider scheduling your vacation at a different time. This can make it easier to obtain the right rental for your family at an affordable rate.

You may also want to discover the peak time for the area where you want to vacation. You will pay more to vacation there during the peak rental time, and less during the off-peak season.

#3 Break Things Up

If you are vacationing with multiple family units, don't stress about finding a huge house where you can all stay together. Instead, see if the rental company has multiple properties that are right next to each other. This can allow everyone to have the space they need to relax, while still providing everyone with the proximity needed to enjoy vacationing together.

Renting a couple of smaller places instead of one super big house will give everyone a little more privacy and control over their personal space while enjoying a group vacation experience.

Understanding Travel Restrictions

As soon as I started traveling worldwide for work, I realized that I needed to work hard to understand the travel restrictions for some of the places where I would be going. After I tried to board a plane with a pack of playing cards to Germany and I was turned away, I realized that there were some finicky countries out there. I worked hard to research each and every place where I would be visiting, and within a few months I felt like I had the hang of things. This blog is filled with fun information about travel and tourism so that you can enjoy your travels and your work trips.
